Rose Petal supports county’s school districts – Published in the July 12 – 18 edition of the JC Sentinel
This week’s Spotlight is on The Rose Petal. This business, owned by Charla and Mike Phillips, opened on June 1, 2004. Charla started the business after her son graduated as a way to stay busy, not realizing how fast the venture would grow! Phillips, who has previously worked for General Motors and BNSF Railway Company, finds the hustle and bustle of floral work fun and loves to be artistic. Phillips and full-time employees, Charlene Ballard and Sheila Lewis, can create floral arrangements for any occasion including weddings, showers, funerals, and holidays. They service an average of 5-6 area schools per year for homecoming and take flowers to customers in five surrounding counties – Phillips says she travels nearly 1,500 miles per week delivering arrangements! The Rose Petal also offers tuxedo rentals and carries gifts, home décor and Avon products.
The business is a supporter of each of Johnston County’s seven school districts and is a member of the Johnston County Chamber of Commerce. The Rose Petal usually takes on an additional five employees for the major flower-giving holidays like Valentine’s and Mother’s Day. Charla noted that she looks forward to the next fourteen years of business and thanks her customers for their support and loyalty.

*Personal moment* I am excited to announce that I have been named the Executive Director of the Johnston County Chamber of Commerce! I have been the administrative assistant for right at a year and have learned so much about this community – making wonderful connections and building meaningful relationships with the members, community leaders, and all of you. The board has been an incredible resource, taking time to mentor and teach, all the while making sure to keep your interests at heart and instilling that characteristic in me.
