Local Simple Simon’s holds franchise first day record – Published in the July 30-Aug 5 edition of the Johnston County Sentinel

This week’s Member Spotlight is on Simple Simon’s Pizza, owned and operated by Marty & Dana Chaney. The same month she retired from teaching in 2018, Dana and Marty were approached with the opportunity to become owners of the Simple Simons Pizza in Tishomingo. She always knew that after retiring she would be working at something else, but never expected it to be a pizza place. They had always said that there was so much more potential for our local Simple Simon’s, not just as a business but for the community as well.

Soon, they were on their way to owning a pizza joint. “Opening day was March 18, 2019 and we were record breakers in the Simple Simon’s franchise. We still hold biggest opening day in sales and most Beast pizzas (18) ever sold. Our community is beyond the best!” With the support of the community then and now through the pandemic it has allowed them to retain 18-20 employees, avoiding layoffs during these tough times.

The Simple Simon’s menu includes much more than just pizza. They also serve hot sandwiches, a variety of wings (bone-in or boneless), Stromboli, calzone, desserts, and a large selection at the salad bar. One of the most popular items that we have is the “BEAST”, a supersize pizza with a 29” diameter serving 16 regular cut slices, or 36 party cut slices. If you are looking for a healthier option, you can try out the Keto bowl or no-carb crust.

The owners love giving back to their community when they can. They have donated and supported people going through difficult times, county schools in numerous activities, local clubs, rodeo queens, Stevie’s Run, Chamber of Commerce events and they always purchase local first if possible.

Marty has been a volunteer fireman for over 30 years and is a board member at the Tishomingo Golf Course. He also is a partner with their son, Logan Chaney, in Chaney Utility Construction. Dana is secretary for the same company and partner with their daughter, Ashtan Chaney, in Okie Snow and Brew. Dana also currently serves on the board of directors for the Johnston County Chamber of Commerce.

This is a family business. “In January 2020 our youngest daughter, Ashtan, partnered with us in the business. She is young and has creative ideas that keeps us on our toes. If you have ever dined with us you have probably seen our children, grandchildren, and the grandmas working here. We have all lived in Johnston County our entire lives or at least most of it. So, to say we love our community is without question. We would not want to live anywhere else.”
