Murray State College and Johnston County Chamber partner to advance economic development

Tishomingo, Okla. (Sept. 27, 2019) – Murray State College (MSC) President Joy McDaniel has appointed Johnston County Chamber of Commerce (JCCC) Executive Director Jordyn Frazier to serve as the representative for Murray State College to the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education Economic Development Council (EDC). Murray State has also agreed to make a financial investment in the JCCC to enhance economic development activities.

Frazier, a graduate of Murray State College, will attend EDC bi-monthly meetings and trainings to provide updates on activities and developments at MSC.  She will also serve as an EDC team member to address issues in communities dealing with economic and workforce development and offer recommendations.

“The college and the Johnston County Chamber both want to assist in development of the local economy.  That includes growing and strengthening economic development by appealing to industry leaders and enhancing our communities in ways that will appeal to business leaders.  Mrs. Frazier will be a great addition to this process as a member of the team,” said McDaniel.

Local initiatives led by the chamber include activities such as the Chamber Bucks Program, production of a community map, coordinating with the Southern Workforce Board and Southern Oklahoma Development Association to gather data and develop strategies on growing the area, forming closer partnerships with local stakeholders, municipalities, industrial boards, and the Chickasaw Nation, promoting the community as a great place to live, work, and play, maximizing use of the JCCC website and economic development webpage to be a one-stop information hub for developers and investors, promoting MSC and its programs, strengthening partnerships with county schools and engaging them in workforce development tactics, and aiding in the planning of short- and long-term goals for economic development.

“This investment is huge for the JCCC. I believe it shows that the chamber is a trusted partner and that both entities want to see Johnston County move forward by planning for growth and being open and ready for business. We are grateful for the support and resources made available by Murray State College to work on economic and workforce development needs of our communities. We hope area citizens and businesses will support this effort and work with us to see these goals achieved, ” said Frazier.
