New owner to take helm at Blue River One Stop – Published in the May 31-June 6 edition of the JC Sentinel
This week’s Member Spotlight is on Scotty’s Blue River One Stop. Scotty McCarthick bought the business on Bullard Chapel Road from Dean and Debbie Arnold in 1992 and built the store that you see now in 1996. The convenience store, bait shop and restaurant caters to trout fishermen and women with more trout fishing bait than Wal-Mart, Academy and Bass Pro, is known all over Oklahoma and North-Texas for the famous ScottyBurger, and features 20 full RV hook up sites. The location has been featured on Discover Oklahoma on two separate occasions and won the OKA Award from CPASA in 2008 for support of the Arbuckle-Simpson Aquifer, and Keeper of the Blue in 2017. These awards likely stem from Scotty’s great work in putting on 50 Blue River Trout Derbies in the last 26 years he has been in business, in coordination with other entities like the Chamber and Blue River Association.
Trout fishing brings thousands of people to Johnston County every year and for Scotty, it’s all about the kids. He said, “I promote and donate to anything that has to do with kids…my love for kids has made my job easy the past 27 years.” Scotty also recently noted in a Facebook post that he is, “…ready to spend more time with my kids and grandkids” and made the announcement that he will be retiring the first of July. He has sold the business to Jason LaFevers, the son of life-long friend, Mike LaFevers, who has said that he plans to keep everything “pretty much the same”. Scotty will be giving Jason a hand the first couple of weeks and would appreciate the community supporting him as he takes on the new role as owner of Scotty’s Blue River One Stop at 4501 S. Bullard Chapel Road in Tishomingo. You can give them a call at 580-371-9288.

I was happy to be present for the Artesian Arts Festival in Sulphur this past weekend, sharing a table and tent with Chickasaw Country to promote Johnston County. I had the opportunity to meet a lot of great people and send them this way with a visitor guide for the area. Next week the economic development committee and I will be in Durant and Kingston at the next Oklahoma Southeast event promoting JC. We’re always looking forward to the next chance to serve you!
