TDT provides community leadership – Published in the Feb. 22-28 edition of the JC Sentinel
This week’s Chamber Spotlight is on the Tishomingo Development Team (TDT). This organization was formed in 2002 as the result of twenty local citizens answering the call to research community priorities and formulate a vision and objectives surrounding the following topics: business development, community image, youth leadership development, community promotion, health and wellness, and Johnston County leadership. TDT is currently led by Chair Becky Henthorn, Vice-Chair Luke Holmes, Secretary Fran Morrell, and Treasurer/JCIA representative, Judy Huston.
The team works on several community activities including; 8th Period, an after-school program for 5th-9th grade students held at the Tishomingo Middle School from 3:10-5:00 p.m.; the Alfalfa Bill Century Bicycle Ride held in October, bringing in dozens of participants from surrounding states; the Johnston County Farmer’s Market, in partnership with TSET and the Health and Wellness Committee; the Johnston County Christmas Dinner, which feeds hundreds of local residents on Christmas day with a full meal while also providing live entertainment; the Fall Kid’s Carnival; the Firefly Color Run, April 27th; the Pennington Creek Canoe and Kayak Regatta, April 28th; the Tishomingo Cemetery beautification project, and others.
TDT is funded by grants, memberships, fundraisers, and donations. An ongoing fundraiser is the local-recipe cookbook, Granny In The Kitchen, which is currently available for purchase at Landmark Bank for $15.00. Contact Cindy Matheny for more information. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the MSC Aggie Dining Room and are open to the public.
